Feb 2004 |

PP
Systems, the Ayrshire-based computer systems supplier, has
recently completed two major installations for clients in the
newspaper industry – one in Scotland and the other in Ireland.
The Scottish deal was with the Border Weeklies group of
newspapers, whose titles include the East Lothian Courier in
Haddington and The Border Telegraph in Galashiels.
PP Systems installed a SCOOP editorial system using InDesign to do
the pagemake-up. SCOOP is a complete, modular editorial solution
produced by the Swedish based Wilkenson SCOOP AB.
The introduction of the SCOOP system at Border Weeklies greatly
enhanced the papers’ production techniques and helped to integrate
the various departments within the newspapers.
The publisher of the Border Weeklies group of newspapers, Ken
Whitson, speaking shortly before his sudden death earlier this
month, hailed the technology installed by PP Systems.
He said: “It has provided a good means of integrating the
efforts of the editorial and advertising staff. We are using the
system through three offices and it has been a great success. It
is also enhancing the skills of our staff who have taken the
changeover in their stride.”
The Irish contract, for the Limerick Post group of newspapers,
follows a successful series of roadshows undertaken in Ireland by
PP Systems late last year. PP Systems had previously installed a
classified pagination solution at the Limerick titles and earlier
this year added SCOOP and a display advertising software package.
Billy Ryan, of the Limerick Post group said: “Everything is
going great here. Staff who were reluctant at the idea of change
are now wondering how they ever managed without the new system. We
are very pleased we chose PP Systems and expect to continue our
growth using their solutions.”
Billy also singled out PP Systems employee Dave Lawson,
responsible for training and technical support, for special
praise. He said : “Dave is a gentleman and a great ambassador
for your company. He is so very helpful and almost always
contactable. When he is not he returns call within hours.”
Pam Poole, Managing Partner of PP Systems said: “It is always
encouraging when customers come back to us and that is what
happened with the Limerick Post and Border Weeklies – it proves we
are doing something right and are appreciated. It is testimony to
the staff we have here at PP Systems and to the reputation that we
have gained over the years.”
PP Systems was founded in 1990 and provides support for networked
computer systems as well as selling a full range of high quality
computer equipment and a satellite internet access.
The company also has an e-commerce site, pp-systems.co.uk allowing
the purchase of printers and consumables on-line. |

ANOTHER
CONTRACT FOR PP SYSTEMS 10 Dec 2003 |

AYRSHIRE-based systems supplier PP Systems, who recently announced
a double contract boost, has secured a third major deal.
PP has installed a network system for Home Concern Scotland which
provides care for clients within their own home. Home Concern has
a Head Office in Ayr and regional offices at three sites
throughout the west of Scotland.
The systems supplier, whose HQ is outside Sorn, will link the
three sites using Virtual Private Networking over ADSL Broadband.
This will mean staff at the Ayr Office can readily access
schedules, staff rotas and other information at Kilwinning and
Glasgow.
Irene Smith, Director of Home Concern said : “We store all
information centrally at the Ayr Head Office, by installing this
new computer network it means we can download and retrieve
information from and to any of our remote sites.
“This gives us significant inbuilt robustness for our systems
as we can be always on at any site and ensure that our systems
provide us with the necessary data at a local level to give
excellent client service. We have also achieved significant
productivity savings with this installation..”
Home Concern Scotland was established in 1998 as a Care At Home
provider and is now one of the largest providers in the sector
within the west of Scotland. It is on the Approved Providers List
(APL) for most major west of Scotland authorities.
Irene Smith added: “This new computer network will be of great
benefit to us and we are delighted that a local company, PP
systems, is able to provide it for us. At the end of the day it
will ensure our communication network is highly professional and
that in turn will be of great benefit to the people for whom we
provide a service.”.
PP Systems was founded in 1990 and provides support for networked
computer systems as well as selling a full range of high quality
computer equipment and a satellite internet access.
At the beginning of August, the new e-commerce site for PP Systems
Direct, pp-systems.co.uk was launched allowing the purchase of
printers and consumables on-line.
Earlier this year PP Systems won a contract to supply and install
twelve new Compaq fileservers at Cumbrian Newspapers’ head office
in Carlisle and at four branch offices. Recently PP announced a
double contract boost to install new servers at KAD Detection
Systems Limited of Galston and at the Ayrshire Hospice.
PP Systems Managing Partner Pam Poole said : “We are delighted
that the technology to link these three sites is now available in
Ayrshire, nine months ago it would have been more difficult and
more expensive. We are also pleased to see a significant increase
in our local business. It seems that local companies are beginning
to realise that good support is available locally. Our hard work
over the last 13 years is now paying off.” |

DOUBLE CONTRACT BOOST FOR PP SYSTEMS 18 August 2003 |

A
LEADING Ayrshire based systems supplier has landed contracts to
upgrade computer facilities for two existing customers.
PP Systems, based outside the east Ayrshire village of Sorn, will
install a new server at the Galston base of KAD Detection Systems
Limited, providing enhanced e-mail and internet access for the
network. PP is also designing a new web site for the company which
manufactures marine fire and gas detection systems.
The second major contract secured is for the Ayrshire Hospice, a
customer for more than 10 years. A new HP server is being
installed with latest Microsoft Exchange software. This will be
connected to the Web with an ADSL broadband link and will give
medical staff at the Hospice fast access to up-to-date research
throughout the world. KAD Detection Systems Managing Director Ken
Dougall said: “PP Systems have been looking after our computer
system for us for the last three or four years so when it came to
upgrading our server we chose to look no further than to PP to
carry out the work.”
KAD’s customers include ferry operators P&O, Stenna, Irish Ferries
and CalMac and Ken added: “Our detection systems are computerised
and use graphics so a reliable computer system, and back up to go
along with it, is essential for us to carry out our day to day
business. While our own engineers are computer literate it is
vital we have the services of a proven company like PP Systems.”
June McFarlane, Support Services Manager at the Ayrshire Hospice
was also full of praise for PP Systems. June said: “For many
years PP Systems have looked after our computer system and
supplied back-up. The new server will improve our e-mail and
Internet capabilities and the move to broadband, with no call
charges, will help to reduce our costs, always an important
consideration for a charity. PP Systems have long provided us with
an excellent service and are always on hand to offer advice.”
PP Systems, Ayrshire’s only Microsoft Certified Partner, was
founded in 1990 and over the ensuing 13 years has developed a
reputation for customer service. Its customer base covers
Scotland, the north of England and Ireland and hardware
maintenance and repair are included in the services provided.
Pam Poole, Managing Partner of PP Systems said: “Both these
contracts come as recognition for the service we provide to our
customers. The Ayrshire Hospice in particular is a long standing
customer and we have carried out maintenance and support work for
KAD over a period of years. We are delighted to have been asked to
upgrade the computer systems for both these valued customers and
it is gratifying that all our hard work over the years is paying
off.”
The KAD detection systems and Ayrshire Hospice contracts cap what
has been a particularly busy year for PP.
Earlier this year it won a contract to supply and install twelve
new Compaq fileservers at Cumbrian Newspapers’ Head Offices in
Carlisle and at four branch offices and in the last year the
company has landed major installations in Orkney and Shetland as
well as locally in Ayr and Kilmarnock. |

PP
Systems the Ayrshire based systems supplier, recently won a
contract to supply and install twelve new Compaq fileservers at
Cumbrian Newspapers' head office in Carlisle and at their offices
in Barrow-in-Furness, Hexham, Workington and Whitehaven.
The servers are part of a major upgrade of Cumbrian Newspapers
computer system and follows the installation of a number of other
Compaq servers also supplied by PP Systems, in the group. Brian
Pennington, IT Manager for Cumbrian Newspapers, said "We chose
PP Systems to supply our fileservers because we can trust them to
help us find the right solution & deliver the goods plus 110%
effort. Our business depends on its computers and it is important
to have good suppliers. With Compaq and PP Systems we know that we
have got it right" The last twelve months have been very
successful for PP Systems, with major installations in Orkney and
Shetland as well as some nearer to home in Ayr and Kilmarnock. The
company has been based near Sorn for nearly thirteen years and
prides itself on the quality of its service. Pam Poole, Managing
Partner of PP Systems is delighted with the progress that the
company is making. " We took a decision right at the beginning
to supply 'best-of-breed' products and services. This hasn't
always been easy in a very price conscious market but it is now
beginning to pay off. Many companies had their fingers burned with
the year 2000 issue and are now turning to companies like ours to
supply computer related goods and services." |
